Educational Programs
The Melanoma International Foundation provides a wide variety of educational programs to the public. Many of the programs listed below can be adapted for volunteers to use in their own communities. If you would like to request a program, please contact Deb Cornelius, our Director of Outreach and Education.
Health & Wellness Fairs: Is your company or organization
hosting a health and wellness fair? MIF can staff a table, providing important information about
skin self-exam, sun safe behaviors and the the dangers of tanning salons.
Lunchtime (anytime) Learning: This is our most requested
program and typically it takes place at a civic organization meeting (Lion's Club, Rotary Club,
etc) or someone's workplace. One of MIF's staff members will cover the following topics and open up
the floor for questions about:
* Melanoma: Who is at risk?
* Melanoma Prevention: pointers about sunsafety
* Skin Self-Examination to find melanoma early
* Opportunities to get involved with MIF
This presentation typically requires 1/2 hour. If additional time is available, we may be
able to take photos showing sun damage with our UV camera.
Early Childhood Program: MIF staff members are available to speak to new
parents groups regarding ways to keep their babies safe from the sun and develop a lifetime of sun
safe behaviors.
Sprouts: A sun safety awareness program designed for Preschool and
Elementary age kids! Designed to be fun and interactive this program caters to groups of 5 to
75 kids at a time. A great program to bring to your local preschool or elementary
school.
